ASPEN EDITIES: OKER + OONA LIBENS & STRANDS OF LUNAR LIGHT
During this label night, the interaction between image, sound and experiment is central. Aspen Edities brings a night where audiovisual performance and live music meet. Artist Oona Libens opens with a live projection performance, researching with a self-made three-eyed projector optic phenomena and the materiality of the image. Her improvisations react on Strands of Lunar Light, a microtonal work for multiple guitars by Fredrik Rasten and Ruben Machtelinckx, that recakks a silenced, almost alien, soundscape.
The night will continue with the album release of Oker. The Norse quartet presents Aerial, their first fully improvised albuim on Aspen Edities. With a refined balance between composition and improvisation, they explore subtle tonalities, acoustic phenomena and slowly shifting textures, and this way build thei own, layered musical language. Line-up: Torstein Lavik Larsen (trumpet), Adrian Fiskum Myhr (double bass), Fredrik Rasten (acoustic guitar) and Jan Martin Gismervik (drums and percussion).
Aspen Edities, the Belgian label behind this evening, is known for their groundbreaking releases on the intersection of improvisation, contemporary music and experiment, always with a special focus on the interplay between music and image.

This evening, Aspen Edities invites artist Oona Libens for an audiovisual performance. With a self-made three-eyed projector, she researches optic phenomena and the materiality of the projected image. Through playing with depth and focus, she improvises live images with the microtonal work Strands of Lunar Light by Fredrik Rasten and Ruben Machtelinckx.
Strands of Lunar Light is a tranquil, alien exploration of spectral microtonality for multiple guitars, performed by Rasten and Machtelinckx. The music recalls an imaginary moon, with its own landscapes, life forms and streams of light. From a deep interest in harmony and just intonation, a dense, vibrating soundscape emerges where sound almost becomes tangible matter.
