‘Round Midnight
In ‘ROUND MIDNIGHT Dexter Gordon, one of the greatest jazz saxophonists of the twentieth century, portrays a fallen musician in Paris in 1959. Dale Turner is a man who has experienced too much, on the verge of self-destruction, yet still enchants with his music. With every note, he tells his story: sad, tender, and full of life.
When a young French fan notices him and helps him, a touching friendship develops, offering Turner the peace and care he needs. Bertrand Tavernier’s masterful film is no ordinary film about jazz: it is jazz in sound and image, a story about music, friendship, and the beauty of the moment.
This film screening is part of the brand new PULSE MUSIC FILM FESTIVAL (22-25 January).
