Nostalgia for the Future
An inspirational deep-dive into the archive of filmmaker Chris Marker, in search of the man behind the images. Guided by Charlotte Rampling’s voice, an archivist delves into the 550 boxes left behind by Chris Marker, one of France’s great filmmakers and the creator of LA JETÉE (1962) and SANS SOLEIL (1983), who always cultivated a sense of mystery around his life and identity.
Photographs, personal documents, and fragments of his films are brought together in an attempt to reconstruct the man behind the work. Gradually, the archive becomes a field of investigation, where Marker’s films enter into dialogue, and the past comes back to life.
This screening is part of the Brussels Art Film Festival (BAFF). Read more about the festival programme here.
More Chris Marker? On March 24, 2027, we are screening his groundbreaking 1953 film essay STATUES ALSO DIE, as part of our FILM CLASS series.
