Film is never just images. From iconic soundtracks and innovative sound design to live musical accompaniment, MUSIC explores how sound and music shape the rhythm, meaning and emotional impact of film – whether in brand-new films and restored classics, or in music documentaries and musicals.

Within this strand we also present RE/SCORED, a series in which contemporary musicians create and perform a new live soundtrack to films, in collaboration with De Studio.

HIGHLIGHTS

OASIS: DON’T LOOK BACK IN ANGER charts Liam and Noel Gallagher’s triumphant reunion tour, Oasis Live ‘25, one of the most anticipated rock ‘n’ roll comebacks of our time. The film is an unapologetically uplifting account of the biggest musical event of 2025, capturing the experience and emotions of the band and their fans across the world. The unique perspective includes rehearsal, backstage, and onstage access as well as the first joint interviews with Noel and Liam in over 20 years.

Although Italian cinema has no shortage of icons, Vittorio de Seta is the odd one out. Drawing on his anthropology studies, de Seta dedicated his life to capturing disappearing folk customs. In the fifties he created a string of documentary films that distilled his research into beautiful footage. With her distinctive, sensitive chemistry of pop, jar and folk, musician Roos Denayer (Rosa Butsi) brings a couple of de Seta’s early films to life. For VITTORIO DE SETA X ROSA BUTSI, musician Rosa Butsi, featuring Marie Cocriamont, has composed a new soundtrack for the short film compilation and will bring it live during this screening.

Unexpected news delights the world of cinema: the long-lost THE SCARLET DROP by western director John Ford was rediscovered in a Chilean warehouse, and has been restored! Goes to show you how cinema can be very exciting behind the scenes as well. Although one reel of the five is still missing, this rediscovery proves to be an important missing puzzle piece within the oeuvre of one of the filmmakers at the forefront of American cinema and Hollywood. The screening will be accompanied live by guitarist Menno Buggenhout, who composed a new soundtrack for the film.
