BOSCINEMA
When you understand one another, you no longer need any articles. De Cinema and Het Bos join forces for an eclectic ad hoc film programme. From daydreaming over a forgotten film classic to fortune-telling through Slavic cinema: anything goes. BOSCINEMA focuses on social engagement, reflection, and communal experience. While the world is burning, we build a cinephile community rooted in solidarity.
HIGHLIGHTS
During this label night, the interaction between image, sound and experiment is central. ASPEN EDITIES brings a night where audiovisual performance and live music meet. Artist Oona Libens opens with a live projection performance, researching with a self-made three-eyed projector optic phenomena and the materiality of the image. Her improvisations react on Strands of Lunar Light, a microtonal work for multiple guitars by Fredrik Rasten and Ruben Machtelinckx, that recakks a silenced, almost alien, soundscape. This event takes place at Het Bos.
A brand-new silent film with a live-performed soundtrack: SATAN JAWA by Garin Nugroho is an Indonesian tragedy about poverty, love, and black magic, filmed in stark black-and-white. Not a retro experiment, but a radical reinterpretation of silent cinema as a contemporary art form. Nugroho connects the visual language of German Expressionism—NOSFERATU and METROPOLIS—with Javanese wayang shadow theatre, masks, rituals, and mysticism into a monumental visual ritual. The screening will be musically accompanied by Peni Candra Rini. This event takes place at De Cinema.
