This month, we put horror icon Pinhead in the spotlight twice with our cult horror night!
Clive Barker’s directorial debut HELLRAISER tells the story of Kirsty’s father, Larry, and stepmother Julia, who move into Larry’s childhood home. Julia soon discovers Larry’s half-brother in the attic, who also happens to be her former lover. He has lost his earthly body to three monstrous SM demons, the gory Cenobites, but is brought back to life by a drop of blood and a mysterious puzzle box… He soon forces his former lover to bring him the human sacrifices he needs to fully regain his body. All this while Kristy discovers more and more about the hellish demons that plague her family. Rumor has it that actress Clare Higgins (Julia) left the premiere after ten minutes because she was so shocked by the film’s gruesome content. She must not have been paying very close attention during filming…
After the events of HELLRAISER, the young daughter Kristy ends up in a mental institute in HELLRAISER II: HELLBOUND. The medical staff doesn’t seem to believe most of her sinister stories. Only the cult-obsessed doctor Chennard shows interest for her. He appears to be looking for the gate to hell for years, and wants to use Julia to lure the terrible Cenobites back to Earth. Film critic Roger Ebert didn’t have a lot of good things to say about the sequel: “That makes Hellbound: Hellraiser II an ideal movie for audiences with little taste…”. Like everyone knows: bad publicity is also good publicity, so don’t listen to this ignorant review and come watch a true horror legend on the big screen!
