Amar Akbar Anthony
Driver Kishanlal leaves prison after having served time for a crime committed by his boss, who rejects him when asked for help. Upon arriving home, he finds a farewell letter from his wife. He in turn leaves his sons behind who then get separated and end up in different homes. The eldest (Amar) is taken in by a Hindu police officer, the middle one (Anthony) finds a home with a Catholic priest, and the youngest (Raju) is adopted by a Muslim tailor. Years later, they meet again under bizarre circumstances, and they decide to take revenge on those responsible for their separation.
Ben Singer: “An iconic late-70s “masala” blockbuster from producer-director Manmohan Desai characteristically mixing melodrama, choreographic action, comedy, romance, and musical spectacle. The narrative appears to go out of its way to flout Aristotelian dictates concerning coherence, plausibility, and causality.”
