Rockers
In the sweltering Jamaica of 1977, drummer Leeroy ‘Horsemouth’ Wallace is just trying to get by. Life in the ghettos of Kingston drifts along in a haze of heat and lingering boredom, until he decides to take charge of his own fate. With borrowed money, he buys a motorcycle to distribute records to clubs and parties across the island—a modest dream to break the cycle of the daily grind.
When his bike is stolen by the henchmen of a local mob boss, the mood shifts. What began as a Jamaican nod to the neorealist classic LADRI DI BICICLETTE transforms into a sun-drenched reggae reimagining of the Robin Hood myth. Alongside a colorful cast of fellow musicians, Horsemouth refuses to let the injustice slide, instead choosing to reclaim stolen wealth for the residents of the slums.
ROCKERS is more than a movie; it is a pulsing time capsule. The line between fiction and reality blurs as icons like Burning Spear and Peter Tosh simply play themselves in their own homes and streets. Carried by a legendary soundtrack, the film shows how music and solidarity are the only true weapons against the stagnation of poverty.
