Jeunes mères
“Compassion, empathy, and light in the darkness.” “Maybe the warmest of all Dardenne films.” “Truthfulness always surfaces in the twists and turns of these lifes and the pure interpretations of the actressess”, HUMO, De Morgen and De Standaard praise the newest film of the brothers Dardenne. With the winning of Best Screenplay at the Cannes Film Festival, the directing duo astonishes as usual with a tender and humanistic look on contemporary society. Again, the brothers work together with unexperienced but convincing actors, address an urgent societal theme, and let their camera explore the scenes unobstructed.
Jessica, Perla, Julie, Ariane and Naïma stay at a sanctuary for young mothers, where they are helped to start their new life with a child. The five teenage girls share love and sorrow together but mostly the hope of a better life for themselves and their child. With each their own story, own worries and dreams, it is the shared experiences and solidarity that enlighten their lives.
