Lost Persons Area
Bettina and Marcus live in a cafeteria in the middle of an extensive field filled with endless rows of high-voltage masts. Marcus tries to start his own business but works as foreman for the maintenance of those masts until his dream takes off. Bettina, from her perspective, is bored while she runs the cafeteria for the workmen and desires a better life. Their nine-year-old daughter Tessa wanders around in the industrial park in an attempt to keep herself busy, often skipping school this way. When Marcus hires a Hungarian engineer to strengthen is business, their unconventional way of life takes a turn. A tragic accident disrupts everyone’s search for happiness.
LOST PERSONS AREA is the first in Strubbe’s Lost Persons trilogy, together with I’M THE SAME, I’M AN OTHER (2013) and her upcoming THE SILENT TREATMENT (2026).
