M HKA FRONT ROW: ALINE BOUVY

Aline Bouvy 90 min
Spoken language English

FRONT ROW is a monthly series of artist’s talks jointly organised by Muhka and NICC. The series offers an opportunity to audiences to learn from the specific posture embodied by and artistic practice and the wider conditions shaping it.

Aline Bouvy is a guest in De Cinema this September for a new FRONT ROW artist talk. In this talk, Bouvy explores shame as a social construct. With dark humour and surreal images, she questions the norms that determine which bodies are accepted, controlled, or excluded.

Bio

Aline Bouvy is a multidisciplinary artist living and working between Belgium and Luxembourg. This year, she represents Luxembourg at the 61st Venice Biennale with the newly commissioned debut film La Merde. Her work explores the relationships between bodies, spaces, and systems of representation, using a feminist perspective and the subversion of established conventions to question social norms.

Her practice engages with what is often rejected as taboo, abject, or aesthetically undesirable. These elements become tools for questioning the moral and cultural norms that govern our perceptions. Bouvy’s work invites viewers into deeply sensory encounters that challenge conventional ways of seeing and experiencing.
