Agnes is a literature professor at a small liberal arts college in New England, where she lives alone with her cat. A couple of years ago, Agnes became the victim of a tragic event – which she calls ‘the bad thing’ – and even though she enjoys her professional life in academia, her personal life has stagnated since the traumatic experience. Her best friend and former roommate Lydie comes to visit and shares beautiful news, which highlights that the people around her are moving on in life like nothing has happened while Agnes is stuck. However, the ’bad thing’ doesn’t define Agnes and she continues to search for – and find – connection with people around her. From friends and lovers to strangers who leave a lasting impression.

Debuting director and screenwriter Eva Victor – who also plays the main character – was ‘discovered’ by director Barry Jenkins (MOONLIGHT, IF BEALE STREET COULD TALK). His attention was drawn by Victor’s short comedy videos on Instagram. “He saw me as a director before I even saw myself as one,” said Victor and it was Jenkins who offered Victor the chance to make a film with his production company Pastel. They produced SORRY, BABY and offered Victor the opportunities to create one of the best movies of 2025.

When asked whether the story is based on Victor’s own experiences, the director responded, “it’s a very personal story. I’ll say that.” But for Victor the emphasis is not on the trauma but on life after a traumatic event and about the healing friendship that makes life after trauma possible for Agnes. “The film is about a very life-saving friendship, and I was lucky enough to have that support from a friend, and a great motivator for making the film as truthfully as possible. It was great to honor that friend and to make the film feel like a love letter to friendship and a friend’s love, trust and help.”
