Strip and War

For the second edition of SLAVICARE KINO, De Cinema and Het Bos are screening STRIP AND WAR: the story of the relationship between a grandfather who retired from the army and his stripper grandson.

Anatoly’s grandfather is a veteran of the so-called Great Patriotic War—World War II—and a tireless promoter of Soviet-style patriotic education. Anatoly has abandoned his boring engineering career to follow his calling as a professional stripper, dreaming of creating a genuine erotic theater. He will have to decide whether to stay and look after his aging grandfather or go his own way and fully be the person he wants to be.

With STRIP AND WAR, filmmaker Andrej Kuciła tells the story not only of a generation gap but also of a fascinating family relationship at a crossroads. It reflects the entire post-Soviet Belarus, still deeply shaped by Russia’s overwhelming presence and proximity.

SLAVICARE KINO is a cultural and community project dedicated to amplifying the voices of forgotten ancestors, household spirits, and political witches, alongside the exiled and dreamers who trace their roots through them. It is an invitation to hear a story, enter a communal space, and take care of each other over a cup of tea.

Some of these stories are funny, some are deeply moving, and others are overlooked. SLAVICARE KINO is an attempt to remember the lives those from the Slavic diaspora have left behind as they truly are: nuanced, imperfect, yet profoundly alive.

SLAVICARE KINO is a co-production between Het Bos and De Cinema, and will take place at Het Bos. Pay-what-you-can tickets are available via hetbos.be, starting from €3.
