İlyas is a truck driver from Istanbul, who arrives in a remote village to work on the construction of a dam. There, he meets Asya, whom he falls hopelessly in love with. The pair marry and have a son, Samet, but eventually İlyas leaves his family for a different woman.,. Years later, he reappears in Asya’s life, and she and Samet face a heartbreaking decision.

Ben Singer: “In this melodrama adapted from an acclaimed Kyrgyz novella, prolific director Atif Yilmaz and Yeşilçam megastars Türkan Soray and Kadir İnanır stay true to operative generic mainstays—familial disintegration, romantic abandonment, crises of attachment, conflicting impulses and obligations, etc.—but refresh the formula through a delicate synthesis of diegetic naturalism, introspective voice, calibrated emotivity, and narrative contrivance.”
