The film follows librarians from states such as Texas, Louisiana, and Florida who are taking a stand. They fight against conservative groups that want to ban books on topics such as race, gender, and sexuality. What initially began as a local debate in the library has developed into an essential battle for democracy and freedom of information. A fascinating portrait of individuals who put their jobs and sometimes their safety on the line to safeguard the right to read.
For a complementary and equally urgent perspective on access to knowledge, HOW TO BUILD A LIBRARY shows how the decolonization and reinvention of a historic library in Kenya embody the same fundamental struggle as THE LIBRARIANS: who gets to decide who can read, learn, and belong.

Samen bespreken we hoe de strijd voor vrije informatie uit de film ook in onze eigen regio pijnlijk actueel is.
