In 2023 BBC proclaimed Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are (1963) as the best children’s book of all time. A couple of years before, BEING JOHN MALKOVICH-director Spike Jonze already adapted the fantasy adventure successfully to the big screen. The story focuses on Max, a boy who is grounded but sails to a hidden island where the creature from the title are living, the “Wild Things”. They declare Max as their king! Jonze’s coming-of-age films is just like the children’s book: incredibly heartwarming.
