Open Cinema, Our Cinema

Just like last year, De Cinema is celebrating VAF’s Open Cinema initiative by showcasing three audience favourites under the motto “Open Cinema, Our Cinema”. The Antwerp audience was invited to nominate their all-time favourite film to see on the big screen, with a particular focus on the work of female and non-binary filmmakers and on non-Western cinema.

On Sunday 4 October, De Cinema will screen the three films that received the most votes: Sofia Coppola’s melancholic LOST IN TRANSLATION (2003), Satoshi Kon’s dark animated thriller PERFECT BLUE (1997), and the Brazilian powerhouse CIDADE DE DEUS (2002). For the first and last films, we’ll be dusting off unique 35mm prints from Cinematek. Curious to see what an analogue film projection looks like behind the scenes?
