A legendary jockey, a fatal accident, and a new identity lead to a hallucinatory odyssey through the night streets of Buenos Aires.

Once the king of Argentine horse racing, Remo Manfredini is now consumed by addiction, debt, and the pressure of mob boss Sirena, for whom he rides alongside his partner Abril. When one of the most valuable horses dies during the most important race of his life, Remo goes on the run. Abril, pregnant with his child, is left behind and must choose between her career and motherhood, while Sirena does everything to track Remo down.

Imagine the visual precision of Wes Anderson combined with the disorienting humour of Yorgos Lanthimos and the memorable musical sequences of Pedro Almodóvar, and you come close to the poetic intensity of Argentine director Luis Ortega (El Angel). With his bold colours, surreal plot twists, eccentric characters, and hypnotic soundtrack, he creates a film that is at once absurd, moving, and irresistibly stylish.

Starring a magnetic performance by multilingual Argentine actor Nahuel Pérez Biscayart, best known in these regions for his acclaimed lead role in BPM (Beats Per Minute), alongside the captivating Úrsula Corberó. After its world premiere in competition at the Venice Film Festival, El Jockey was selected as Argentina’s official submission for the Academy Awards.

A surprising and singular tragicomedy about identity, desire, and the freedom to continually reinvent oneself.
