Max Roach: The Drum Also Waltzes
MAX ROACH: THE DRUM ALSO WALTZES tells the story of a musician who continued to push boundaries in a society that constantly challenged him. Roach’s seventy-year career, from the revolutionary jazz of the 1940s to his later experiments with hip-hop and multimedia, cemented him as one of the greatest musical innovators of the 20th century.
The film follows him through legendary peaks and profound personal struggles, as well as the price he paid for his outspoken activism in a country scarred by racism. What remains is an epic musical journey: daring, virtuosic, and driven by an unwavering belief in art as a form of resistance.
This film screening is part of the brand new PULSE MUSIC FILM FESTIVAL (22-25 January).
