With À BOUT DE SOUFFLE, Jean-Luc Godard changes the course of cinema: handheld cameras, jump cuts, jazz and stolen cars introduce a new film language that breaks with classic montage and narrative structures.

A young criminal wanders through Paris while he tries to keep away from the police and at the same time tries to build a relationship with an American journalist. The film moves at the same time as road movie, love story, and manifest of the Nouvelle Vague.

Jean-Paul Belmondo gives shape to the charismatic anti-hero who drives through the city as small criminal and cinephile, while Jean Seberg places him in front of herself with her iconic short pixie haircut and playful, natural performance. The result stays surprisingly fresh, playful and sexy, and influenced generations of filmmakers worldwide.
