As the days grow shorter once again and a touch of summer nostalgia sets in, the late-summer edition of Slavicare Kino invites you to relax and enjoy the last of the warm summer sunshine during a cosy evening of film.
In INDIAN SUMMER a teenage girl spends the summer holidays with her grandmother, where she takes her first steps into the adult world. This feature film debut by Czech filmmaker Saša Gedeon is a loose adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s short story “Bernice Bobs Her Hair”, in which the lives of cousins Klara and Maria consist mainly of open-air dance parties. A friendly rivalry soon develops between the young girls: both want to win the boys’ attention.
The film will be preceded by Marie Lukáčová’s short film Orla (2026): an eco-feminist and surrealist Czech folk tale that combines 16mm footage with 2D and 3D animation.
This screening is part of BOSCINEMA: an eclectic film programme that focuses on reflection and social engagement. While the world is burning, we build a cinephile community rooted in solidarity. This summer, Het Bos and De Cinema present four open-air screenings in what is perhaps Antwerp’s cosiest courtyard: the BOStuin.
The screening is also part of SLAVICARE KINO: a cultural and community project dedicated to amplifying the voices of forgotten ancestors, household spirits, and political witches, as well as the exiled and dreamers who trace their roots through them. It is an invitation to hear a story, enter a communal space, and take care of each other over a cup of tea.
Showtimes
Before the film, from 20h00, we’ll be getting together for “džemování”: making jam together to celebrate the harvest season and preserve summer memories for the cold winter evenings ahead. Bring a friend and a jam jar, and stick around after sunset for the Czech summer films.
