From iconic masterpieces and silent film gems to modern classics from recent film history: it’s De Cinema’s mission to present film classics as they should be experienced—restored, with live music, on 35mm,… Often contextualised with introductions, aftertalks and Q&As, or film lectures by experts and filmmakers. Our CLASSICS-series travels across continents to bring the rich history of film to the big screen.

HIGHLIGHTS

For the second year in a row, De Cinema heads outdoors this summer with a series of open-air screenings.

For the second edition of Classic Tuesdays at CINEMA URBANA during the ‘Zomer van Antwerpen’, De Cinema presents four film classics that put freedom, longing and uniqueness to the test.

Together with fc dollyshot, we present DE GENOMEN BENEN (THE GREAT ESCAPE) at De Nor, the free space of Dennis Tyfus in Middelheim Park; one Wednesday evening in June, July, and August.

In addition, this summer we’re launching four unique screenings as part of BOSCINEMA, our new collaboration with Het Bos, in Antwerp’s cosiest backyard—aka the BOStuin..

In September, De Cinema, Gravenhof Hoboken, and Blikfabriek join forces for CINEMA DEPANNAGE, a unique drive-in cinema experience. Everything is in place: a sharp film programme, a giant screen, top-quality sound, cars, and popcorn.
